Message from Pat - Change

"Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better. To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things better."

~King Whitney, Jr.

These past few months have been a lot about change. I don't know about you, but this presidential election has inspired me in many ways.

First, there is the amazing experience of being a part of history in electing the first African American male to the position of President of the United States of America.

There was the feeling of "Yes!" being real in the "Yes, we Can" slogan that excited many people and spurred them into political awareness and action that I have not seen before.

Fork In RoadThere was also the yearning for change to happen. You could feel it in the air. You could feel the heaviness of the American people as they became aware of the position of their beloved country in the eyes of those outside of America. And especially in the eyes and hearts of each other.

I must admit, the hope of change and the slogan of "Yes, we Can", along with witnessing the leadership skills of Barak Obama called me into action and for the first time in my life, it called me to work on a political campaign. It called me to work on Obama's campaign. My motivation was that if Obama lost, I could not live with the fact that I did nothing.

I spent hours calling voters in New Mexico, Nevada, Washington and Florida and simply encouraged them to get out and vote. I spent time talking to my fellow volunteers about why we were doing what we were doing and found out, Yes, we wanted change. Yes, we wanted to believe "Yes, We Can".

And yes, "We Did."

Yes, leadership is about vision. Yes, leadership is about changing the status quo for (hopefully) the better. And yes, leadership is about inspiring others into action.

"If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer. It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled, and not disabled. Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States. We are, and always will be, the United States of America

Yes, We Can.
Yes, We Can.
Yes, We Can."

Change Begins With Choice - Article by Jim Rohn

Any day we wish; we can discipline ourselves to change it all. Any day we wish; we can open the book that will open our mind to new knowledge. Any day we wish; we can start a new activity. Any day we wish; we can start the process of life change. We can do it immediately, or next week, or next month, or next year.

We can also do nothing. We can pretend rather than perform. And if the idea of having to change ourselves makes us uncomfortable, we can remain as we are. We can choose rest over labor, entertainment over education, delusion over truth, and doubt over confidence. The choices are ours to make. But while we curse the effect, we continue to nourish the cause. As Shakespeare uniquely observed, "The fault is not in the stars, but in ourselves." We created our circumstances by our past choices. We have both the ability and the responsibility to make better choices beginning today. Those who are in search of the good life do not need more answers or more time to think things over to reach better conclusions. They need the truth. They need the whole truth. And they need nothing but the truth.

We cannot allow our errors in judgment, repeated every day, to lead us down the wrong path. We must keep coming back to those basics that make the biggest difference in how our life works out. And then we must make the very choices that will bring life, happiness and joy into our daily lives.

And if I may be so bold to offer my last piece of advice for someone seeking and needing to make changes in their life - If you don't like how things are, change it! You're not a tree. You have the ability to totally transform every area in your life - and it all begins with your very own power of choice.

To Your Success,
Jim Rohn
