A lot of my life, and the life many others I know, has been spent with the belief that "I can do it myself."

How wonderful to experience the richness of our lives when we find allies to connect with for what we are up to in our life.

The definition of an ally is: to bind together; connect by some relation, as by resemblance or friendship; associate. One who helps another or cooperates with him; supporter.

In my one on one coaching work, I find that most people want to make a difference in their world. The challenge most have is that they think: "It's too hard, it'll be too much work, I don't know how to do this... ad infinitum." Hundreds of excuses.

When I begin to introduce the idea of finding allies to play along with them, the energy shifts. This is a new possibility and your can hear the doors open.

One of my mentors, Laura Whitworth believes that everyone wants to make a difference... they just don't know how. I take it a step further and say "It is our responsibility to help show them how." I think we are cheating others out of playing their "Bigger Game" if we don't ask them to be an ally and join us in ours. That is what leaders do. Inspire others.

You must get better at empowering others as leaders. Reach out and get better at asking for help. Model this for others.

I guarantee it will open up new avenues and doors that you never imagined were there.

Step into leading and play a Bigger Game in your life... don't wait... model leadership... the World needs us to do this.

Working with People's Strengths

As a leader, you will get the best results for the least amount of effort if you work with those who are in tune with your ideals. You would be wise not to give a disproportionate amount of energy to those who are not in tune. Creativity cannot thrive where too much effort is devoted to merely holding the line.

If you develop a nucleus of people who work well with you, and who work well together, others will be drawn in by the magnetism they generate. The stronger the vortex of positive energy, the greater the creative flow. This is the opposite teaching from the well known saying, "A chain is only as strong as its weakest link." True, if you are working with a chain you'd better see that every link in it is strong. More often, however, you'll be working with vortices of energy. In this case, you'll only dilute their energy if you devote much time to negative vortices, which may seem more like black holes in outer space, drawing even the light rays inward to themselves, than like stars that emit light.

In working with individuals, too, concentrate on helping them to develop their natural strengths. Many think to help others by pointing out their weaknesses. Generally speaking, however, people improve more by magnetizing their virtues than by brooding on their shortcomings.
