Message from Pat

"She was a 'what if' personality and because of that she never really happened."
- Anne Wilson Schaef

For us to be truly living and to feel that aliveness, we must be continually investing in ourselves. The quote above reminded me of how much of our lives we live in that "what if" place. Or that "if only" place, or that "someday" place. Lots of us get stuck there and live our entire lives there.

Do you know anyone like that?

Last month I talked about the GULP! factor and what a juicy place that is…this is the place that helps you decide what you need to invest in to become a player in a bigger game. The GULP! is the place where you know you are going to do something you haven't done before. This is where you need to begin to invest in yourself.

Investment is about preparing yourself, getting ready for the next step, learning something you didn't know before. You invest in yourself to give the best of yourself.

It is part of the "doing" of Leadership. It is what will take you out of the "what if", "if only" and "someday" place. It may be the first step of getting into action.

Some investments you may need to make:

  • Talk to others about what you are up to
  • Find allies who will help you
  • Gather resources
  • Develop knowledge or learn new skills
  • Give up old habits and develop new ones
  • Organize your office or surroundings
  • Focus on your fitness and health
  • Develop personal competencies

Brian Tracy recommends that you invest three percent of your income in yourself (self-development) in order to guarantee your future. I don't think it "guarantees" our future, but it does open the path.

"If you want to be truly successful invest in yourself to get the knowledge you need to find your unique factor. When you find it and focus on it and persevere your success will blossom."
- Sidney Madwed

Step into leading and play a Bigger Game in your life…don't wait…model leadership…the World needs us to do this.

Lead strong!

Pat

Let It Out!

You'll never have all the pieces. You'll never have all the parts. Don't wait to be perfect before you start. Walt Whitman said to himself, "Walt, you contain enough. Why don't you let it out then?"

You are a dynamic life force full of mystery and wonder, not a machine to which all the parts can be added and properly arranged. Building your skills and resources is important and helpful to the extent that it is moving you forward; don't let it become a trap. Don't let it become an excuse for inaction.

Remember, focus on the value of what you have to give, not on your weakness – and act.

Excerpts from "Zen and the Art of Making a Living" by Laurence Boldt.

"Threads"

Listen.
In every office you hear the threads
of love and joy and fear and guilt,
the cries for celebration and reassurance,
and somehow you know that connecting those threads
is what you are supposed to do
and business takes care of itself.

- David Whyte

Pat Obuchowski is the CEO (Chief Empowerment Officer) of inVisionaria. inVisionaria is a company devoted to helping people and organizations find and achieve their vision and their voice. She works with individuals and organizations that are looking for structure, focus and accountability to set and achieve their goals. People who are ready, willing and able to begin playing their "Bigger Game." No kidding. Right now.

Testimonial:

"Pat cuts right to the chase, and challenges me to move forward on making steps to take my business to the next level. By asking questions about how I market and sell my services, she found that there are certain areas where I hesitate to go for what I really want. From there she simply asked me why I was making excuses and not taking action! Her questions prompt me to look at my actions, and take action."
